Stick Insects – Giant Thorny Trachyaretaon brueckneri – In Their Own Faunarium

These gentle, docile creatures are a perfect first pet. Giant thorny stick insects are great for handling (with care) and do not reproduce as quickly as other stick insect species. Both sexes are brown in colour, but they differ in pattern and shape. Females (pictured) look more like a tree trunk: their abdomen ends in a point (ovipositor/egg laying tube) and they may reach up to 13cm in length (including antennae). Males are slimmer, have a rounded end to their abdomen and will only reach up to 10cm in length. We usually send a mixture of male and female nymphs if they are old enough to tell apart. Before purchase, it is recommended that research on their care is taken. Stick insects come with a detailed care guide (that can be requested beforehand by emailing ‘zoo@thebugfarm.co.uk’), their own faunarium (tank) and are sent by Special Delivery* on Tuesdays and Thursdays only each week. We are currently sending out larger nymphs.

*Please note that although the stick insects are sent by Special delivery, processing the order can take a few days. If you need your insects by a particular date, please make sure to let us know in your order notes or give us a call and we will do our best to get them to you in time.

**We do not send out live stick insects in cold weather. If you have placed your order in a cold snap, we will send them as soon as the weather warms up to make sure that their journey to you is comfortable!
