Despite our name, we don’t ‘farm’ bugs here on a commercial scale. The farmland supports our Tyddewi Herd of Welsh Black cattle, arable crops such as wheat and barley and acres of wildlife habitat including wildflower meadows, Rhos pasture, marshy grassland and heath. Our farming practice is informed by our scientific research. Working with a number of universities, we have a programme of research that covers all aspects of the food chain: farming edible insects for food and feed; farming native insects for land management purposes; and using the services bugs provide to farm more efficiently.
