Regular workshops during school holidays

'Meet the Bugs' Up-Close

Every day that we are open. 12noon, 2pm & 3pm
£1.50 per person. All children (3-15) must be accompanied by at least one paying adult

Meet the bugs in our very popular Up-Close sessions. You will first learn a little bit about our favourite bugs, before we show you how to hold them. Then it’s your turn!

Additional sessions during the Summer holidays
11am, 1pm, & 4pm

Each session lasts approx. 30 minutes

Foraging workshops

Tuesdays, 11:30am – 12:30pm
Children £8, Adults £12. Children (9-15) must be accompanied by an adult

Come and discover your ‘inner forager’ with Julia from Wild About Pembrokeshire. Explore the fileds and hedgerows around The Bug Farm to identify plants and their uses.

Mosaic workshop

Thursdays (excluding 26th July), 12noon – 3pm
£5 per mosaic. Suitable for all ages
Normal admission applies

Come and get creative with local mosaic artist Maddie Janes. With Maddie’s guidance, you will design and create your own mosaic using beautiful bits and bobs from her treasure trove!

This is a drop in workshop, so there is no need to book in advance.

Clay bug making

Mondays 2pm – 3pm and 3pm – 4pm
£5 per clay workshop. Suitable for age 5+. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Normal admission applies.

Join ceramic expert Nadia to make your very own bug out of clay! Plus paint a ready made clay model made by Nadia.

Family bug hunt

Wednesdays & Saturdays, 2-3pm
Children £4, Adults free. Suitable for ages 4+. All children (4-15) must be accompanied by an adult

Come on a mini beast adventure with The Bug Farm team! Using the latest bug-hunting kit, you will journey into a hidden world that you didn’t know existed.

This activity is weather dependent.

Hoppers, swimmers & sliders

Fridays 2 – 3pm
£2 per person. Suitable for ages 4+
All children must be accompanied by an adult. Normal admission applies

Join expert Dr Sam Langdon to discover the amazing amphibians and reptiles that live alongside the bugs here on The Bug Farm. Includes a guided walk and pond dipping.

Weather dependent. Please bring wellies!

Special events

Marine invertebrate safaris with Dr Lou Luddington

Sun 12 Aug 1 -3pm, Mon 13 Aug 1:30 – 3:30pm
£10 per person. Suitable for ages 6+
All children (6-15) must be accompanied by an adult

Come and explore the Pembrokeshire coastline with local marine biologist Dr Luddington. Lou will help you discover the ‘bugs’ of the seashore. Learn how to identify marine invertebrates from anemones to periwinkles and discover more about the incredible habitat they call home.

Summer bug trail

Sat 28 Jul – Sun 3 Sep, 10:30am – 4:30pm
£1.50 per trail (includes prize)
Normal admission applies

Collect your puzzle sheet from the ticket office and then follow the clues around The Bug Farm. Solve the puzzle and you will be rewarded with an explorer’s prize! You will have to keep your eyes peeled, many of the clues are very well hidden…

The Bug Farm's first Summer Fayre

Sun 19 Aug 10:30am – 4:30pm
Free. Normal admission applies

Fly over to The Bug Farm and join us for our first ever Summer Fayre. Hunt out local craft stalls, hot and cold food, face painting, snail racing and lots more!

Resident exhibition - The Cross-pollination exhibition

The ‘Cross-pollination’ project showcases the importance of insect pollinators and their habitats through the development of a collaborative network that brings together award-winning artists and scientists from the UK, Ireland and the USA. Selected works of art and interpretation from the project can be found across The Bug Farm site and copies of the project guide book can be found in the Art Gallery.

Beautiful Beetles

24th March – 31st July  Beautiful Beetles – Photographic exhibition by Richard Hellon
An exhibition that ‘celebrates the wonderful variety of colours and patterns that evolution has wrought on the surface of beetles’. A series of more then twenty stunning macro photographs by St Davids’ resident Richard Hellon. Richard, who turned 90 in 2017, is a man of many talents; a career in medical research preceded his work as an author and now, photographer.

Lou is a marine biologist and photographer living and working in Pembrokshire. Her photos depict the invertebrate ‘bugs’ of the sea and the incredible habitat in which they live
